Business Support Staff

Jan Mason

Jan has been our Receptionist since 1995, having previously worked at a structural surveyor’s office. Jan loves her 3 horses, Flynn. Bunny and Harry and is a regular competitor in local shows, doing dressage and showing classes, when not hacking out, and generally enjoying the countryside in all weathers. Jan describes her dog Maisie the bull terrier as more project than pet.

Karen Rees

Karen, a native Welsh speaker, has worked in reception since 1993, having previously worked for the Welsh Pony and Cob Society. She lives in a village outside Aberystwyth and enjoys countryside pursuits, dividing her time between her three children, her 5 ponies and her 3 dogs.

Tracey Watson-Smith

Tracey is our afternoon receptionist. She joined the practice in 2007 following an administration post at Trawscoed farm. She has acquired Smelly Nelly the Cairn Terrier, and Tilly the cat, and enjoys spending her leisure time looking after her small grand-daughter, walking, reading and cooking.

Bethan Bebb

Bethan has been on the staff since 2001 and she manages all of the TB and Interherd administration for the practice. Bethan, a Welsh speaker, farmed for many years in Goginan. In her spare time she enjoys handicrafts, sports and reading.


Nikki Myring-Thomas

Nikki is one of our newest members of staff and is part of the business support team since February 2016 following twelve years at Padarn Surgery.

She studied Equine studies at Aberystwyth University and qualified as a Riding instructor.

She has two children that keep her busy as well as her dog ‘Sox’, one guinea pig, two gerbils and also runs a dog sitting service with her husband whenever they can.

Lis Owen-Jones

Lis joined Ystwyth Vets in January 2016 as business support and head receptionist. She is a Welsh Speaker and has lived in Aberystwyth for over 20 years, hailing orginally from Harlech with spells away in Cirencester and Brecon gaining experinence in management and development work.

Nigel Hughes RVN

Nigel has been a nurse with the practice since 1993 and trained at Bicton Agricultural College. Nigel is the practice’s Technical Manager. A trained clinical coach for the nursing team, he is also the co-ordinator for the Celtic Breeding Services. He takes a particular interest in the nursing care and rehabilitation of injured wildlife admitted to the practice.

Nigel is the bass guitarist of a popular local rock band, Anthemic Live Band, who started their world tour with Ipswich and Sheffield! He enjoys fly-fishing, art and graphic design, spending time with his wife and young daughter. He has been spotted running a few London marathons in the past.
