We offer a comprehensive health care package for cats at Ystwyth Vets.

Commencing at 9 weeks of age, we strongly advise vaccination consisting of 2 vaccines given 3 weeks apart.

Annual vaccination is strongly recommended thereafter, and provides an excellent opportunity for an annual health check.

This provides protection against Feline Calici virus, Feline Enteritis, Chlamydia and feline Herpes virus. Feline Leukaemia vaccine can be given in addition or separately. We also have vaccines for Rabies, relevant to those cats who may be travelling outside the UK.

Kittens should receive roundworm treatment every 2 weeks from birth to 3 months of age. Thereafter, monthly treatment with a complete (round and tapeworm) wormer is advised until 6 months old, and every 3-4 months thereafter.

Flea treatments may be required on an individual basis.

We have a separate cattery for cats staying at our clinic.

We provide blood-pressure monitoring for older cats, and our in-house laboratory provides  rapid analysis of medical problems. Our on-site diagnostic facilities include ultrasound, endoscopy, and digital radiography. We also use IDEXX external laboratories for additional testing and histology.

We do most surgical procedures, including orthopedic procedures, in-house. Complex cases can also be referred to specialist centres when indicated.

Neutering can be carried out at any time after 4 months of age.

We carry out dental treatment and prophylaxis on cats, and both vets and nurses can advise regarding your cat’s dental care.

Our nursing staff are on hand to give advice on aspects of caring for your cat including grooming and nutrition. Call the surgery if you have any questions.

We are enabled by the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) to register a single pet per qualifying client under their scheme, enabling greatly subsidised treatment for illness. Please enquire for details.
